INMATE MANIPULATION TECHNIQUES
STC Certified #07728637
There are no limits to what a criminal will do to gain the advantage. Inmates are simply confined criminals with a captive pool of victims from which to choose. They have no rules and have nothing to lose. We are here to educate correctional staff on inmate manipulation techniques and empower staff to protect one another and to protect themselves, their families and their careers.
R. Corley retired from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation after 24 years of service. In the course of his career he conducted hundreds of investigations that involved inmates manipulating staff members into overfamiliar relationships and subsequently smuggling contraband into the institution.
Hold The Line was created as a vessel to reach out to and offer support to those who walk the line everyday in a custodial setting. Hold The Line provides insight into the mind of the criminal, the lengths they are willing to go, the potential repercussions of making one wrong decision and the steps one can take to protect themselves.

Hold The Line training is one of the most powerful defense tools you can equip your staff with. It is an eye opening , in your face approach based on Mr. Corley's personal experience as an investigator. The Hold The Line course is the best I have ever seen on inmate manipulation techniques. It is common sense that is not yet common knowledge.

The presentation of this course, taught and developed by Mr. Corley, is highly impressive. I believe by attending this course many staff have been detoured from falling prey to some inmates. I would highly recommend any staff in Corrections, or Law Enforcement would benefit greatly by attending this course. Furthermore, I recommend the course be attended on an annual basis!

Rob Corley has taught this class for years and it is easily the most popular class as rated by the participants. I have had the privilege of attending several of the presentations and they were all excellent. I have over 25 years of experience in correctional settings that vary from group homes, juvenile hall, county jail and state prison. During my career, I have never attended a better training based on inmate manipulation techniques. One has to respect the honest approach and how it is his personal mission to protect all staff from the hidden dangers that lurk within some inmates. Through his many years of experience with investigations he has become an expert in this subject. The knowledge from his experience is what he shares with staff. This is one of the most crucial differences between Rob’s presentations compared to other trainers. The second most noteworthy observation I can provide is the overwhelming approval of all staff that attend. Rob’s style is invigorating and those in attendance are always paying attention because of his delivery.
Over the years I got used to seeing staff come out of his class saying it was the best class on inmate manipulation they ever had. I am in agreement with all the staff in that it is the best class I have ever attended. Even with my knowledge and experience, Rob reminds me every time I have to always stay vigilant with recognizing the signs of a set-up.

Robin instructs with humor and real life scenarios to captivate his audience and help them understand the seriousness and critical need for staff awareness and vigilance in dealing with inmate manipulation techniques so they are not compromised. This is a ‘must have’ course for anyone working in the law enforcement arena and interacting with inmates in state prisons, county and city jails.

The curriculum is easy to understand while putting out a positive message to all our staff no matter the discipline. Due to the simplicity of the message being delivered our staff has been successful in identifying “games inmates play” in order to keep them safe. I recommend this to all people looking to stay aware.”

Chief Executive Officer, Health Care
California Correctional Women's Facility
What an eye opener the class offered by Mr. Corley turned out to be. His custodial knowledge and experience provided insightful and engaging scenarios illustrating how manipulate the inmate population can be. His passion for ensuring ALL staff are correctionally aware can be felt through his delivery. He truly wants to ensure staff in a correctional setting do not succumb to the career ending manipulations inmates are known to attempt. He provided authentic scenarios of what correctional staff should constantly be thinking about to ensure boundaries are not compromised. The reality is many of us could not imagine the situations he has witnessed.

Reports from Atascadero State Hospital staff training:
This is something we should attend on a regular basis as a reminder to remain aware of our interactions with patients and our own susceptibilities. He has a way of presenting important information in a style that is relaxed and fun yet gets a very serious point across.
The presenter was dynamic, prepared and knowledgeable. I thought it was an excellent reminder to maintain boundaries.
We have all heard cautionary tales about inmate manipulation and know the rules. This instructor had a new interesting way to explain start to finish how these things happen. The nuance of the manipulative mind.
I have been investigating staff involvement since 2007 and believe that our facility could really benefit in making this class mandatory for all staff. The instructor not only knew the material, but presented the material in a humorous way keeping the audiences attention. We need the instructor to teach the class on a continuous basis.
Vital course for all employees, especially those behind security. Eye-opening real-life situations to show how things start what seems insignificant and grow out of control. Important to make staff aware.
